Feng Shui

Welcome friends. This website is dedicated to Feng Shui and all of the positive things that come with this ancient tradition. I have designed this site with the intentions of teaching you about feng shui and how to bring about many great things into your life by simply following some of the traditional practices associated this art. The theory of feng shui is very complex in nature, but once understood and accepted, feng shui can offer some valuable tips that will help improve your life.

Feng shui is an ancient art developed in China over 3,000 years ago. It can be summarized as a mass of knowledge and wisdom that proclaims the way to bring balance in your life using the energies of the planet. Those who learn to dwell in feng shui will discover an abundance of wealth, prosperity, health and good fortune for the rest of their days. It is no wonder why so many people are turning to the study of feng shui to improve their lives and homes.

Feng shui is pronounced fung-schway. In Chinese, the word 'feng' stands for 'wind' while 'shui' stands for 'water.' It is believed in Chinese culture that good health and fruition comes exist in calm wind and clear water. This is why the term 'good feng shui' means good living and good fortune while of course 'bad feng shui' represents bad misfortune and hardship in life.

The ancient Chinese and Taoists believed that the land was alive and its energies could lead to the upbring or downfall of a nation or kingdom. The basis of feng shui is similar to this vision. Much like the theories of yin and yang, and the five elements (fire, water, earth, wood, gold), the Taoist understanding of nature and feng shui go hand in hand.

Feng shui analysis is determined either by a feng shui compass or The Ba-Gua. The feng shui compass, also known as the lo-pan, is used to determine information about a building or space in more depth. The word 'lo' stands for 'everything' while 'pan' stands for 'bowl' which can be interpreted to signify the key to the mysteries of the universe. It is basically a magnetic needle surrounded by bands of concentric rings.

The Ba-Gua is basically an octagonal map which contains in it the symbols of the I Ching. The I Ching is the ancient oracle which feng shui is based on. It is a simple device to use in order to ensure the feng shui of a particular area or locale.

The study of feng shui is indeed a complex system which can take years to understand and master. However, there are some basic feng shui traditions that are easy to understand and practice. These traditions have been outlined and thoroughly explained in a magnificent feng shui study guide which you can learn more about in the Feng Shui Books section of this website.
